...meh, a mile's too long. How's 800 feet sound?

You'll see what I mean in a bit...but first is getting there. What a challenge.*

(*If you really want a challenge, try loading this with a 56K connection, Muahahaha!)

lolviolation

Finding our way can be such a daunting task as well.

It tests the hardiest of souls...

...and they use what they do have at their disposal.

And they....meh, enough with the corny crap. Just look.

"See, we're pedestrian friendly! We've just about idiot-proofed our sidewalks and crosswalks!"

Oh yeah, now here's the 800 feet. Up in the air.

Imagine if I was up here holding a giant magnifying glass and all the little people below were....nah, that's mean.

Grandpa! I can see our house from here!

Old Sixth Ward. More on that later.

The Gulf Building was Houston's tallest for over 40 years.

I-45/I-10 interchange.

Uptown, from Downtown.

Some of those observation deck windows could use a little wash.

lol

This is one of the oldest neighborhoods left in the city.

Damn it's dark in that store.

A storage place going up this close to downtown? Only in Houston, right?

Glenwood Cemetery. Another walk for another day...

Can't go nowhere these days without a dadgum forklift blocking me.

OK, I realize we're such a mediocre city with strip malls and all that...

...but goshdernit we sure have a lot of palm trees. See, we're almost cool. Or something.

OK....are we ready to see what "not walkable" means?

But hey, I made it, so I guess it's "walkable" if you've got mad skillz.

Pedestrian friendly. lawl

I'm getting a little tired.

This bus line doesn't run very often. Oh well. I'm done walking.

There it is, that's the bus!

...or not. Well, it's a bus at least.

Oh look here it comes now.

I want some nachos.

And Jfre does it again!

I'm a little upset that you didn't bother coming to see me...You passed by where I live a gazillion times!

Great photos though!

I thought you were still in Boston. Anyway, I guess you had nothing to do and you were sitting at home watching Shamwow commercials, because it sucks here and there's nothing to do. And you can't walk anywhere.

Glad I've got a fast connection!

Nice varied shots of Houston. Lots of interesting architecture, too.

I got a chuckle out of the "Use Sidewalks" sign.

But did you walk or were you behind the wheel?

Yeah, it's a bit much. Seems there's no limit to images on here, so I might break up bigger ones in the future.

I was sitting behind the METRO bus driver who was behind the wheel, so indirectly...lol

Good way to see the city! Was that one bus route or did you have to transfer? Just curious.

Here's how it went down:

-Walked to the 14 Hiram Clarke stop along South Main@Willowbend. Rode to the Texas Medical Center transit center. Got on the light rail.
-Got off the light rail at the Wheeler station and walked to the Fiesta Mart for spare batteries and something to drink. Walked back to the station to ride the rail into downtown.
-Took off on foot from Main Street Square rail station to the Chase Tower; went up to the 60th floor. I did use the elevator, or else my walk would've ended there.
-Walked to Franklin Street which becomes Washington Avenue; walked the length of Kane Street in Old Sixth Ward before going back out on Washington to Studewood/Studemont, also known as Montrose Boulevard on the other side of the bayou.
-Walked past West Gray to the 34 Montrose Crosstown stop to get back to TMC, to transfer to the 14 back home.

I did this whole thing in the span of 3 1/2-4 hours, and was by no means hurrying along.

Great photos! The only area I haven't walk to yet is the Heights. I can't believe you covered so much ground, are you on foot all day?
