There's a difference between wrong and illegal.

I don't know why anybody should expect to have privacy on a street corner or parking lot.

Anyone who holds any real expectation of privacy can forget it. Privacy doesn't exist at all anymore.

Exactly! It's so sad, really.

I think this is a wonderful idea, now the only issue is whether those who commit crimes will be prosecuted or just given a slap on the wrist and set free to commit their crimes elsewhere

I might propose this to our HOA due to the upswing in car break-ins during spring break and the summer.

I don't think I quite get the sentiment. I do expect some level of privacy in my backyard. Sure, my neighbors around me might be able to see into my yard, but that's the consequence of not having a rear alley separating property lines. Other than that, I don't feel like my privacy is invaded on a daily basis.

I don't expect privacy biking in the park, walking down the street, or walking in a parking lot. How could you? They're public places. Privacy in a public place doesn't and shouldn't exist. So I guess I just don't quite get it?

I think the cameras are great in public areas. All over the place in London with signs letting you know you are on CCTV and they've definitely got some low crime rates. Felt safe walking alone long distances day or night there.

Baltimore has CCTV too, you going to tell me Baltimore has low crime rates?

CCTV is good since it makes it easier to prosecute and could act as a deterrent to some (kinda like locks keep honest people honest), but that's as far as it goes IMHO.

I'm happy to give up a little privacy in public places if it means I can shop or go out to eat at a restaurant without being robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot.
