check the chronicle neighborhood price trends and see if your section has gone up or down in value. Talk to a realtor and check new home prices at the model.

I'd talk to an experienced Realtor about it. You might be surprised, summer is the hot season for corporate relocations, and a lot of folks (like us) need to find and buy a house fast and don't want to wait on new construction. We just didn't want to deal with the hassles of new, so we bought a 2 year old Village home in Cinco West last summer. We probably overpaid, but we were in a hurry and it was still DIRT CHEAP compared to where we were coming from. The market is slow right now but Cinco homes have held their value relatively well compared to other areas.

Rent it out! If you really need to take the job. Many people want to move into cinco without wanting to buy right now. So consider renting it out. You just need a realtor to list it for rent you pay the realtor First month's rent i think. This is a betetr way, you can wait on the prices to go up. Or you can keep teh home as an investment for the future.
