The Woodlands is a suburb of Houston.

wow..ahaha
didnt know I was stirring a pot of sorts here.

how is a person a "jerkface snob" for complaining about the crime rate of an area?! hahaahaha.

its not snobbish to say that Willowbrook is the next Greenspoint, nor is it illogical.
all im saying is that its headed that way.
if I offended any senstive person's favorite mall, thats not my intention.

believe me, the Woodlands Mall isnt great either; especially considering they had a lady get shot there a few months ago.
crime can happen anywhere; I get it.

but getting back to the point of Willowbrook.
i grew up going to that mall alot and its not the same place it was back 25 years ago.
crime has gone up alot.

and yes they have great stores...but that doesnt mean its a safe area.

some of us must live in an alternate reality......

All I can say about the Willowbrook area is that often the perception is worse than the actual results. For many years, the Willowbrook area has felt like it may be heading down hill. This mainly began when the Willowbrook area was annexed and city buses sprung up around the area about 15-20 years ago.

The problem is that the statisical data in the area, for the most part, has pointed to a LOWER crime rate over the years.

Willowbrook has a couple things working for it over a mall like Greenspoint as well. The Vintage, Klein, and Champions area are higher income areas that are serviced by this mall. Greenspoint doesn't have a lot of higher income places that service it, so it went downhill. I DO think another contributing factor over the years is the Woodlands mall as well. I think a lot of people in the 77379 area code have split or moved their shopping to the Woodlands as that area has developed more and more.

While it feels like it may have gone down a little, my wife and I still shop fairly often in the Willowbrook area and have no problems using the movie theater across the street or eating at the various restaurants.

That being said, I always advise my wife to be extra careful in the parking lots and to pay attention to her surroundings, especially if she is shopping alone. This advise, however, pretty much applies to everywhere, no matter where you live. I just make it a point to remind her if she is heading over to the area alone.

Now only if the bankrupt General Growth Properties could have updated the common mall areas before they became bankrupt. The mall looks like it was last updated around the same time Sharpstown was updated (c. 1993).

Maybe the new owners could make improvements to compete with a new mall that will eventually pop up in Tomball proper (more likely west of Tomball along the new freeway bypass).

It's a settlement for ex-pat Dallasites who only moved to Houston for work and make visits to their hometown almost every weekend.

Having lived in the Willowbrook area and worked in several areas all over the city, I can say Willowbrook is a much nicer place. Yes it's changed but no where near a Greenspoint. For one thing just go to Champions shopping center and look around. I promise Randall's is not filled with the Greenspoint clientale at those prices. And the doors of businesses are still open.
