In that case try to move to Cypress (Barker Cypress off 290 highway). You can get a brand new house for $100,000 or so

One of the only positive things I can say about living in Texas is the cost of living, that's it. My family and I moved here in March of 2005 to the Spring area and we HATED IT!! People were very racist and nosey there and that seems to be the norm every where in Texas. We are currently in Cypress now and same o'l Sh**. Neighbors are very nosey and everyone does the "Keeping Up With the Jones's" deal here. People are not very open to interracial marriages, and there's almost no cultural diversity here. My family and I are cosmopolitan (3 or more nationalities; Polynesian, Caucasian, Asian, just to name a few) and we are outcasted by our neighbors and many others that we've interracted with. We are very humble, well-mannered people and we are judged because we "Look Different". None of us look anywhere close to "Elephant Man" or anything, but we still get outcasted.I wouldn't recommend anyone moving to Texas at all, but if you must due to financial reasons, then so be it. Other than that, you've got nothing here. The beaches look awful, and some beaches you have to pay to enter it (about $6 per vehicle) for an ugly beach with brown "Gulf Coast" water with no waves to surf...ewwwww, of course this comes from a person who has been spoiled with Pacific Ocean water. Some of the people here, like our neighbors who live directly across us totally look like they were products of "inbreeding". No disrespect, but it's true! And these people think we look weird because our skin color is brown. At least we're not too dark, not too light, we're just RIGHT!!THERE ARE NO STINKIN SIDEWALKS HERE! What is up with that? They do not encourage people to get any exercise whatsoever. Walking is limited to your own subdivision, like the segregation that goes on with races here. The pace is very slow here! I remember coming here in 2005 and heard on the radio station the DJ saying "Here's brand new music by ***** Cat Dolls, Don't Ya". New? I was listening to that for almost 6 months in 2004 in Las Vegas. Duhhh, brand new? Get with it!And, we are totally West Coast so our personalities are very colorful and outgoing, but to Texans, it's strange behavior. We're not strange, you guys are...lol!! I'm having fun here, Can you Tell? NO OFFENSE TEXANS, but you guys are the most boring, slow-paced, racist, dull people we ever met. YOU GUYS NEED TO GET OUT AND VENTURE INTO THE WORLD AND LEARN THAT OTHER CULTURES AND RACES EXIST AND HAVING A SENSE OF HUMOR IS A GOOD THING!!Okay, after having said those awful things, I would like to end this on a positive note. The PRICE IS RIGHT when it comes to realestate. In 2008 on the Forbes Magazine, Houston was been listed as one of the top 5 of the best cities for real esate investments. I totally concur. The educational system is definitely TOP NOTCH!! Even though I'm not too fond of Texas, Texas has very high standards in their educational system. From personal experience, as well as the experience of my children. They also have TOP NOTCH medical centers like Texas Children's Hospital.I guess things would be better for us here if my wife and I were the same race and if we were Caucasian. And don't judge me because I gave my opinion, I'm telling my side of the story through MY personal experience. If you are caucasian, you can't say anything because you don't know what it's like to be me and you can't live it through other people's experience, you have to have first hand experience to know what racism feels like. When I was told there was very minimal racism here, it came from my dad who was 100% caucasion so of course he won't know what it feels like unless he walked into an All-Black neighborhood.

WOW, we are Caucasian and I got to be honest, we spent most of our week there in the spring area at our friends house and did not see that. reason being, it was a dirversed neighbood and everyone was really nice. I met my buddy's [ he is Caucasian ] best friend and he is black. We went down the street to a neighbor's house crawfish party and they were spanish, They were some of the nicest/welcoming people we have ever met. All the kids playing in the street [ there was alot ] all looked like they were from different nationalities and there was no race thing going on...they all were just having fun. I'm not saying you didn't see it and I do believe you but I just didn't see it. I am from New york and have alot of close friends of different races...I don't play that color Sh*t. Trash is Trash, and Trash comes in every color. Good people is just that...GOOD PEOPLE

I have no problem with that, part of the reason why we are going there.

maybe dull or slow paced but I think it's a little EXTREME to call all texans racist's...you think.

That sounds like something I would hear over here in new york from some of these radical activists.

I do hope you find a place there that your family can be happy and not feel that way & Thanks for the imput though

God Bless You

You can't hide behind the it's-my-opinion thing and not expect people to judge you when you spill a bunch of hate and vitriol. I caution you to reread everything you've typed before casting your judgements on Texans. It seems to me you're trying to get the speck out of our eyes while you've got the log in your own eye. Either that, or move to a different neighborhood. Your experience is hardly representative of the city as a whole.

The beaches at Galveston are brown because the local rivers drain into the Bay then find their way to the Gulf. Go to South Padre- different type of beach entirely.

You have generalized everything about Texas into your experiences in a small suburb of Houston. Perhaps it is you who needs to get out more and see the rest of the state.

I have lived in 4 countries and visited many more, and I can tell you from my experiences, people all over the world are more alike than they are different.

Default To all of my fellow former New Yorkers....

Welcome to Texas! I'm a native Texan who has lived all over.

Houston is the friendliest big city in the world, imho.

Yes, it's hot (GEEZ). Yes, it's humid.

It's like this, kids: I've got a palm tree in my back yard and a pine tree in my front yard. I have bouganvilla hanging off the wall on my front courtyard. I have a 2,500 square foot house for vastly less than I was paying for my NYC upper westside apt in 1989! I have excellent Thai, Greek, Mexican (both Tex-Mex and "authentic"), Japanese, Argentinian, and American food within a 15 minute drive of my house (not to mention the seafood, chinese, and other stuff).

The worst day last winter broke freezing, and everybody here panicked! I do not OWN a sweater OF ANY KIND. My nice leather jackets hang in the closet---except when I wear them to work in the winter, BECAUSE I'M DRIVING TO WORK IN JANUARY WITH THE TOP DOWN ON MY CONVERTIBLE. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I took my Dad to Galveston this last weekend, 1 hour my house to Seawall Blvd (drive to Fire Island in that amount of time....). We walked along the Seawall, taking in the Gulf (ok, it was muddy, but there was no visible feces or garbage in it....), the gulls, and the South Texas sky....

Major league sports? Ok, so the Texans are not the Giants. They've got a shot! Everybody starts somewhere, and I will put Reliant up against anything NYC has to offer in a heartbeat. Baseball? Yeah, the 'stros suck right now---but y'know, at least they're not the Yankees! (I was a Mets fan in NYC). Basketball? Puh-leeze. Rockets vs. Knicks??? ahem.

Deli, go to Kenny and Ziggy's, Post Oak. Not the City, but very good. Thai? Geez, pick one. Chinese? Same. Mediterranean? Which part?

I'm going to live here as long as I possibly can, and when I die, they are going to cremate me and scatter my ashes on the Gulf of Mexico (and I've got 30 year old friends---I'm 52--- with a boat who swear they will do it).

Now, if y'all will excuse me, I need some sushi......

Agreed!

I'm here by way of most recently 8 yrs in SoCal, a stint in San Antonio & the rest in New York. My family is mixed caucasian/asian.

I've learned that it's crazy to compare Houston and/or its suburbs to anything else. There are great things about Houston and there are certainly its negatives. It is what it is and it's up to the individual to find his/her happiness after doing some due diligence before moving.

Houston was never my first choice of city to raise my family but here we are & we're making the best of it and learning how to best enjoy and thrive in our new home state.

Sure - there are areas where you will experience extreme behaviors (like discrimination but that happens EVERYWHERE including SoCal) but to make such a crass generalization about Texans because of the experience you've had in a neighborhood you chose is unfair & over-the-top ridiculous IMO. Glad you found amusement in writing that all out though.

I hope you find a place where you & your family can be happy and blend in well with your community.

My daughter, son in law and grandchildren lived in The Woodlands for 4 years. When you go back, check out this area. I loved it....beautiful homes and everything you could possibly want in "the bubble" as locals call it. The best planned community ever. Would love to move there myself.
