We are moving this summer from the New England area. I thought I had found the perfect place (FRIENDSWOOD) then someone told me to check The Woodlands. The internet is wonderful for research, but I always value personal opinions. A couple of schools that I like are College Park HS and Oak Ridge HS, we have a son entering 10th grade. Once again THANKS for all the feedback, you guys are great!!!!!!!!!

Oak Ridge is a highly diverse school. The school used to have a large gang problem, but the Conroe ISD PD has done a good job keeping the place in line. Oak ridge is currently has a new wing being built for a more updated sports facilities. OR will also be closest to the new south county sports complex (football field + swimming facility). The OR/Shenandoah area is a little cheaper than the woodlands, is more diverse. Nothing wrong with the area, just OR high is a little bit rougher of a school. Good school, good administrators there, good ROTC program.
College Park is the newest school in Conroe ISD, nice school, more diverse than Woodlands high. Nothing wrong with either of the woodlands high schools, just the difference in cost to live in neighborhood zoned to each school...

Woodlands and Friendswood are going to be similar type developments, both being developed along the same timeline by rival developers. Kingwood area would also fit into this group. At least thats my opinion....others might not agree.

How can people who needs to make a living live in the Woodlands? Isn't it like over 30 miles away from downtown Houston? Are there any other job makets in Northern Houston area that would cut the distance to 20 miles or so?

Yikes, I'd stay away from Friendswood. Woodlands is WORLDS better than the southside of Houston. I could list 1000 things that are great about The Woodlands, I highly recommend check it out.

The are a ton of jobs in The Woodlands, but a large percent of Woodlands residents make the commute to Houston. When I have a family, I know I'll be moving to The Woodlands and making the commute, so we can live in a GOOD area without the rift raft.

My husband will be working in Houston, this is our reason for the move. Please expand on the Yikes, I'd stay away from Friendswood. The only info I have at this time is research on the internet. I appreciate the personal opinion of everyone who lives in Texas. We are visiting at the end of the month to check out the areas.

My husband recently accepted a job in the Woodlands, and we have heard great things about the area. Everyone says that it is beautiful with great schools and it seems that there are plenty of jobs. The only downside for us is that we are just starting out and things are much pricier in the Woodlands, so we might end up commuting from a cheaper suburb into the Woodlands.

One side of 45 is The Woodlands the other side is Spring at the Rayford/Sawdust intersection. This area of Spring is great. Awesome schools (Conroe ISD,) cheaper then The Woodlands in housing and taxes.

As for the commute there is The Woodlands park and ride. It is wonderful and is $8.25 a day.
