This depends on many different circumstances.

I would start with getting a quote from the same company where you have your car insurance, since you might get a multi-line discount that way. Otherwise, just start calling companies for quotes.

$14.83 per month with my auto insurance company for 1 year. I know there are cheaper ones.

$100,000 coverage for an apartment?? That seems rather extreme unless you have some major art work or really high end items....

If you are a AAA Auto Club member, you can get really good insurance rates for both auto and home renter's policy. Check it out. The policy is for a full year so no worries over rates going up every 6 months.

I have no choice. This is a requirement for all tenants. Must have $100,000 Liability. This is with AAA Texas. I have Auto with them.

$244 for 1 year, $33,400 Personal, $100K Liability.
$66 off of Auto Insurance till the end of year.

I applied the $66 to Renter's Insurance which brings it down to $178

$178 / 12 = $14.83.

Yep, that 100K is for the liability portion of the policy. They could probably care less for what you cover your personal belongings for. I used Liberty Mutual when I was a renter, don't know if they are the least expensive.

Nvm. I got 100k too. Just looked it up. Don't know why I got 100k, though. Must have been the lowest they had offered.

I kind of consider it a "non-requred" requirement wherever I go, just because too much bad can happen and it's too cheap to not get it.
