Hi,
Am making a trip to TX, to check out Spring and McKinney, and wanted to know if anyone can give me info on the following..

Schools
weather
housing

maybe opinions on the difference between the 2 areas. I used to live in Houston when i was a little girl, about 25+ years ago..

We are in Southern California and are used to heat but not really humidity....we are in the desert so we see many days 95+ degrees.

We have 3 young children under 6 so schooling is MOST important, and a nice area to live in. Do you see kids outside in the summer, is there a lot to do for kids? How is the economy there, are there a lot of repo/ foreclosure homes?

We visited Austin about 2 years ago, i just was not ready to leave here, but now, with our taxes, school system and other crap, we are on the hunt!! We are self employed, so costs for us in CA are a lot, and will be going up....aside from that, i want my kids to get a great public education, with art and PE if possible!!!!

Thank you so much.

almost forgot, is there a lake to go boating on?? Not fishing, but boating with our family?

Skip Spring and head over to Kingwood on Hwy 59. Better schools and a lake/river.

Spring is a large area and varies greatly from high end neighborhood to extremely sketchy low-end neighborhoods. Is there any particular reason you were looking at Spring? No lakes there. If you like boating you might look at Kingwood or Atascocita areas , they have boat ramps into Lake Houston.

Don't move to Spring. Go to Klein or Tomball instead.

We moved here 1.5 years ago and looked all over Houston. The Woodlands, Kingwood and the Champions area are the only places that I would want to live. Part of the Champions area edges into Spring.

Why NOT move to Spring, any reasons?

My husband looked at The woodlands, they are beautiful, but too high priced for us!!!

We are moving to slow down our life a little and have more family time. Also i know the taxes are higher there, so we would not want to spend more than $400k. We also would look to rent first, as we have never lived there, and would want to get a feel for the areas we really liked that we could afford.

A business came up fro sale in my husbands line of work there, so that is why i asked.

I lokked at Kingwood, it looks nice as well, we are also looking in Collin County, McKinney... any thoughts...

For info on McKinney, you will have to ask the Dallas folks, that is up in their neck O' the woods. The Spring school district has had a number of recent scandals. Several of which include inappropriate relationships between teachers and students and there is more. A member of the Spring ISD school board is also involved in a huge scandal with the North Forest ISD (see abc 13 houston for stories) and is not trustworthy. You requested a lake and a good school district and you seem to be focused on the north side of town....so Kingwood fit those criteria better than anywhere else. It is a very nice neighborhood.

I notice Spring is getting a really bad reputation lately on the boards and just around town. Is it going the way of FM 1960?

Not all of Spring is in the Spring ISD...we live in Spring in the Klein ISD and it is fine. Our address is Spring, but we are less than a mile from The Woodlands. We get to enjoy all of the amenities of The Woodlands without the high price tag.
