The smart answer is no business is a good one to start in this economic depression.

But if you insist and have all your own money, because no bank is lending, then a restaurant is always the best. No matter how bad things get, no matter how broke people are, they will always go out to eat. Today people will eat out cheaper but they still go out often. I feel anything in the fast health food is a good choice.

Good luck......you are sure going to need it.

From my readings, most businesses started in Depression/Recessions. Cheaper investment in a Deflation market.

For restaurents, that depends on location, type of food and service.

I've always been curious how well something like a bar would fare. A lot of people say alcohol is a pretty recession-proof industry. Is this true?

Dollar Store is.

Competitive advantage is what seperates the rest and also how unique your product is.

If I was the only Bar in a city like Conroe. I sure would do well.

Sorry, but this is terrible advice. Many of today's most successful businesses started during previous recessions. When everyone else is running for cover is when you should seize opportunity. Also restaurants have one of the highest failure rates of any business segment.

No. Many Bartenders are out of work. Those still with a job will complain that tips are off 50%.

This may be true overall but I feel young people might still go out and waste money on booz.

Dont you think things are different now? We never seen an economy this bad. If you have a big fat wallet and can hold on then you may be right but who has any money?
