There's a new place called Smash Burger on Main at Kirby, across Main from Kroger. Haven't tried it yet but I've been hearing good stuff about it.

Dirty, have you been to Poppa Burger on North Main? I saw it on one of the walks I did not long ago, and have been intrigued...

Poppa Burger is open 24hrs a day. It is good to go at like 4 am when you are getting home. The double has a piece of wonder bread in the middle. It is really greasy which is good late at night. The burger however is just your standard cheap frozen patties. It doesn't suck but you can't call it a good burger. I will try Smash Burger though.

Smashburger is also opening up more locations:

Eldridge Pkwy & Briar Forest Dr, Nottingham St and Buffalo Speedway, Westheimer and Wallingford Dr, and FM 1960 Road E & Atascocita Road.

Some may already be open, not sure since I live really close to the Main and Kirby location.

So does it compare favorably to good ol' reliable Whataburger? Even if it's still frozen patties, decent burgers aren't that easy to come by at 4am.

I'm a veteran of the inverted hours thing....when I was in NC I would've just about killed for something like Poppa Burger.

There are 3 other ones (Downtown, TMC, Garden Oaks) but I can't vouch for any of those locations.

Get the bacon cheeseburger and a side of onion rings, which are breaded w/ corn meal like hush puppies. The bun is toasted w/ poppy seeds.
I can vouch for Garden Oaks. (Shephard @ 30-something just north of the 610 North Loop) Easily my favorite place for burgers. You do carry a scent of grease out with you when you leave, though. Mmmmmm....

You are right about that. I lived in Charlotte and Greensboro and late night burgers are pretty much limited to Wendy's or McDonald's.
