If you go down Telephone Rd look for anything just south of beltway 8, thats where Pearland starts and its much safer and nicer. I actually live there and it is great. You will probably have to look for an apartment though to find something in your price range. This area is literally 5 minutes from Hobby. There is also a mobile home community at 518 and Oday in Pearland. Just go north on Oday from 518 and it will be on the right hand side after a couple blocks.

Do not live close to Hobby airport its raunchy they have at least 4 gangs over there I work on Mosley and Scranton street. I learned you cannot have a red belt I got in a fight I was just gassing up my car. There are some really wierd people that hang out on broadway between 45 and airport road and also some wierd people near almeda genova road. That walmart over there is full of people with gang tattoos.
