I'm just wondering how stable the Houston economy is for a newer realtor relocating from the midwest? Is this one of the "better" cities to get my own business up and running once settled and established with a bigger name company?

If you'd rather PM me, that's fine too! Thank you

With the few experiences I have with realtors here in Houston (well Sugar Land), if you are only partially capable you should do just fine.

The woman who we purchased our home through 5 years ago, walked away and never contacted us after closing. What no mailings? No emails? No house-warming gift? Our previous realtors were always in contact, we even had one who would bring us a ham every Christmas. (We had bought and sold 3 houses through him).

More recently we were considering selling our house here in SL, looking to maybe downside, or for a house that needed a little paint/carpet and was at good price. We drove around the neighborhood we liked, wrote down realtors names of houses we liked - and couldn't get a reply from the listing realtors. I went on line and found a woman - who had the most sales in her office. She did call back. So after viewing our houses we ask her if she could give us an idea how much our house would sell for in the present market. She wouldn't tell us. She said she had to go and pull comparables, etc. Ok. So when I call her to ask her, she wouldn't tell me over the phone - she said she only would do it in person. And only if my husband was there too. Huh? We never got her results. THAT and she actually met my husband's boss (they work at a very recognizable place) and she tells his boss that she's our realtor, and that she is listing our house. So my husband's boss now thinks that since we are selling our house, my husband obviously has a new job opportunity.

Just going into open houses out here and asking the realtors basic stuff - like what is the average days on market houses are selling? Or price per sq ft. They look at you blankly.

Just my opinion.

Thank you Tora for your reply. I'm definitely considering Houston as my new city. I'm sorry you didn't have the best experience with your realtor, although I'm sure that's all too common.
