If I am going to be living in Houston for 6 months, do I need a TX Driver's License and do I need to change the coverage on my insurance? I have Allstate.

Texas Department of Public Safety - Driver License Division (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/dlindex.htm - broken link)

This says you have 30 days after moving into the State. But, there maybe something about temp. residence...I did not read further.

You're supposed to change drivers license, insurance, etc. within 30 days. You are also to switch your vehicle registration over.

If you're SURE you're only going to be here 6 months, and you try VERY HARD not to speed, run red lights, or otherwise get pulled over....

Let's just say there are still Katrina victims all over town with expired LA tags. Don't know how often they get stopped.

It's your risk if you don't comply. How brave are you?

I agree......I wouldn't change all of that information. If you get pulled over just say you are visiting. I lived here a while before I changed mine (More than 6 months). Not saying it's right but that's what I did.
