I posted this same question on the exercise forum, except that I added that myself and spouse have a big difference in height- 4'10" vs 5'11".
I was also advised to go to a bike shop as opposed to Walmart,Target, Academy. Mostly because the quality of the bike, it seems and the better fit that I would probably get at a bike shop.
Bike Barn has a location in Katy, so I'm going there this weekend to check it out. Hopefully one of the lower end Trek WSB will work for me.
Someone on that forum recommended a 14 in frame and 26 inch wheels, so that it would be easier for both of us to ride together (as opposed to me getting a "kids" bike with 24 inch wheels)

I really would like to stay under 350 or so. I know that I can look at used bikes (and that might work for husband) but I'm not sure how tough it would be to find one small enough for me.

Any thoughts?
