I have a two story house with a 5-ton A/C unit. The family room has a high ceiling (open to second floor). There is a thermostat downstairs and upstairs. I usually have the downstairs to 77. We don't go upstairs that much so its set to 82. Is this a good and efficient setting? I read somewhere that you should have both up/down no more than 2 degrees apart? Is this the way to go?

Thanks.

I have mines both set at 78 during the day (8am to 9pm) and 76 at night (9pm to 8am) 7 days a week, last month I had them at 75 (24/7) and got hit with a $500 bill.

Needless to say I had solar screens installed for every window on the house lol , I can't wait to see this month's bill.

btw; I have the same AC set up.

Did you do the solar install your self or hire someone. How much per window?

The solar screen guy was suppose to come to my house, but never showed..

Anyway... my wife and I started keeping the downstairs at 80 and upstairs at 82. We have a 3500 sqft home. Let's hope our bill will be lower... Last month we kept the temp to about 85 thinking that it won't work as hard... wrong. Our bill last month was 300 bucks.. It takes more energy to cool down a house than to keep it cool...

After having three different contractors come out to my home and give me a price quote, I decided to go with Lone Star Solar

Total price was $1,230 for 28 windows(different sizes) matching grid lines on all of them, hell I even got my back door and that little window over my garage done lol

Yes it's a dual zone unit, I was thinking about getting another one added but when the AC tech came out to my home, he thought the one I have is a better set-up and not to waste my money.
