Houston Mod is having another Mod of the Month today at 9222 Timberside. This one was custom built in 1957 and still has the original owner. It is located east of Stella Link, south of South Braeswood. Open 2-4. Come by and see a great house and help support preservation of mid-century modern architecture in Houston.

For those that don't know, Houston Mod is a 501 c3 preservation organization that was voted best preservation group one year by the Houston Press:

Houston Best Preservation Group - Houston Mod - Best Of Houston - Houston Press

One of its more pragmatic approaches to preserving mid-century buildings in the residential realm is to try to match sympathetic buyers with the modernist homes so they will be saved and not torn down or remuddled beyond recognition. This is accomplished through their "mod of the month" program. A deal where they host an open house at a more exceptional mid-century modern home that is currently for sale.

The program received a "good brick award" from the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance" just last year.

For those that are interested in modernist architecture there will be another on the 14th. Houston Mod has selected a couple in my hood, 7711 Lakewind & 8015 Arletta. They will be open from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday as part of this program. Houston Mod will also have some of its publications available as well as membership information for those that are interested in showing their support for modernist preservation in Houston.
