I don't know the reason why, but they are. I believe if someone falls on the sidewalk by your apartment or outside your door, the complex is liable. But if someone is inside your apt. and something happens, your renter's ins. is liable.

Actually, renter's ins. is much cheaper then if you're insuring a house. If you can get it right on your car ins. policy, it doesn't cost much at all.

Its about $11-15 a month. Some apartments do not require this.
