Believe it or not there's a little (3-4 sq block) single family home neighborhood - Shannendoah - sort of imbedded between a hundred apt complexes on Bellaire, Dashwood, and Clarewood on the S. and Gulton on the North. There's actually a lot of decent well-kept brick 1500-2000 sq ft homes with nice-sized yards. It's very convenient, almost as Bellaire or West U. at a bargain price I'm sure. However, I used to work nearby about 10 years ago and cut through the area when Gulfton was conjested and the neighborhood was pretty much also used as a cut through for illegal aliens either walking through the area or standing around the corners just outside of it soliciting work. No way I could live there.

Great for shopping and eating along Bellaire - like a vacation to Cancun without neady plane tickets.

I believe the big change in the area came when the law against single/family apartments arose. It concluded it was unfair to keep children out of certain apartments. After that the singles moved out and families moved into tiny cheap apartments built for singles.

I don't see what's the big deal, Katrina evacuee and Illegals need somewhere to live. Let's give a big thanks to Billy White for keeping that safe haven available for our hard working, tax paying , and law abiding citizens.

When crbcrbrgv cannot defend or apologize for your neighborhood, you know it is really, really bad.

Well it becomes a problem when they're all living in a densely packed area. So it really is a big deal....

I remember seeing this pickup getting rear ended by a nice BMW, the funny thing is the guy in the pickup took off like a bat out of hell, LMAO I guess having insurance isn't a big deal over there.

My mom was in the car with me (visiting from San Diego) she was thinking "WTF are you doing moving to Houston?" I had to explain to her that not all of Houston is like Hobby/45/Gulfton areas

These people have been living there for decades. Consequently most got their amnesty way back in the 80's. In addition many of those apt bldgs are condominiums and a good percentage of those residents are homeowners, don't owe anything to the bank. A lot of those people are smarter than many of you who are still renting or paying a mortgage.

Gulfton has a Houston Police Department "storefront," where the police have a presence.

The People's Health Center Clinic is shared between Gulfton and Sharpstown.

There is a library at the HPL Express Southwest at the Southwest Multi-Service Center. In addition there is the Bellaire Library about 1.8 miles from the intersection of Gulfton @ Renwick.

Actually the "Bayland Park" and "Burnett Bayland Park" are two separate parks. Burnett Bayland is a city park in Gulfton. Bayland park is a county park in Sharpstown.

The HPL Express is just something recent. HPL express is just a counter where one goes to just order the book and waits for it to arrive from another library. Second, the Bellaire library is located in an upper middle to upper class area. Many people from the Gulfton Ghetto feel unwanted going there.
