Eesh. Our constable escorts solictors out of the neighborhood, whether they have a city permit or not. It's against our HOA.

It is against ours as well but we still get um. Seems there are not enough constables to patrol.

Thankfully, we don't get any salespeople, against the HOA also.

I'm against door to doors sales, but how can you legally stop a citizen from walking down a PUBLIC street and knocking on doors ?

I hate to say it but I can see a law suit down the road......

Unless someone can show me how an HOA can take away a persons civil rights....

I'm wondering why Constables are enforcing HOA rules to begin with.

They have no right to... that's one of the reasons I can see a lawsuit down the road...

Our neighborhood has a contract with them for additional patrol. If a call goes out that there is a person going door to door, the constables ask them to leave and explain it's against the neighborhood policy. There are signs throughout the neighborhood that soliciting is not welcome. 99% of the time I assume the sales person would just rather go than make a big deal about it.

No lawsuit would occur unless the person wanted to be an ass and keep on walking the neighborhood unwelcome, and for some reason the constable enforced the salepersons departure. Tanglewood has the same policy. Like I said, most people leave when asked. The constable is not enforcing anything, just explaining neighborhood policy and pointing out the signs that say "No Soliciting"...but usually when a police car pulls up and one is asked to leave the neighborhood, city permit or not,..most of the 4 buck an hour people will leave.

PS- The door they knock on is private property, as well as anything off the 10 foot city easement from the street.

Funny thing about all of this is... A. Deregulation (Law passed allowing Retail Electricity Providers to compete for customers) was voted for unanimously by Texans. B. These are people who are actually working , trying to earn a living. C. The Door to Door Salesperson earns straight commission D. These Door to Door salespeople walk an average of 6 miles a shift. E.Door to Door Salespeople are probably the most talented salespeople in the world.

Please allow me back this up...

A. If you would take the time to listen to these people, they show you electricity plans that could "Actually" benefit you by saving you money on the same electricity you already use. But instead of listening you all treat them like garbage... What does that make you?

B. These people are working, just like you, me and everyone you know. So just because they work (probably harder than anyone you know) and earn a paycheck, doesn't mean it gives you the right to treat them like crap... How would it make you feel if people treated you like you treat them, just because you're doing your job. Believe it or not, many of these professionals have families. Human families, with kids.

C. These Professionals don't take the easy route most Americans take to earn their paycheck. Most of us follow the herd and settle for getting paid what our employers feel what we are worth. Hell, most of these people don't even deserve whatever hourly pay their "given".Door to Door salespeople "EARN" their pay. So when you act the way you do, you don't even give them the decency of giving them a chance to "EARN" your business.

D. Their job is not only physically demanding... The amount of negativity they deal with on a day to day basis, would send most people to a state of depression. Their mentality, is to keep as positive as possible while putting all that crap you (more than likely) called him/her, behind them. Yet, you still find the time to bash these hard working individuals while you sit your fat, lazy asses in front of your computers and beat them some more because they actually work harder than anyone you know... Pathetic!

E. As you may have noticed, I call them professionals. Why? Well, because they walk up to a potential customers house unannounced. The people inside of these homes are not in a "buying" state of mind, they're not thinking "I need to save money on my electricity". These people are in the comfort of their home and environment. The Door to Door professional knocks, Introduces him/herself, explains their product/rate, gets that person into a "buying" state of mind, have the customer understand that we can switch to another provider, possibly save money and finally, gets that customer to agree to a 1, 2 or three year contract.

Now THAT's Talent!!!

BTW, these contracts happen to protect (or secure) your rate from the unstable markets, demand and potential catastrophic events (such as Hurricanes) anyone remember Ike? Besides, this stimulates your local economy and provides (much needed) jobs.

So, I hope this opens your eyes to what these people go through just to earn a buck and gets you to stop being so damn ignorant.

Remember Texas... You voted for it!

You typed a lot of words and wasted effort here. In 2014 there is no reason to open your door for any salesperson. Girls Scout cookies are for fat asses, so not even that will pull my heart strings to open up.

I don't choose for Joe Salesman to be in door to door sales. People have a right to get offended when a salesperson comes knocking. There is literally nothing a salesperson can offer me that I cannot find on my own. And guess what? If by some chance a salesperson does have a good/service at a lower price, I will gladly turn down that economic advantage. The opportunity cost of my time in not being harassed is worth more to me than whatever money a salesman could save me.

Your post does not open my eyes. Let me guess... A family member or significant other was in door to door sales and you witnessed first hand how tough the life was and how hard they worked to make ends meet. Yada yada yada.
