We are thinking of buying a house in Shadow Creek Ranch. Some people have warned us against it because they say you can smell the landfill. I have been to many parts of Shadow Creek Ranch and have never smelled a landfill. However, I don't want to move to an area that you can smell trash. Does it really exist? Is it just certain parts of SCR or certain times of the year?

Thank so much for your comments!

Even if you can't smell it, the reputation is real since different people have mentioned this to you. That reputation is what matters to the person who may buy the house from you someday... they have options just as you probably do today. Maybe you're getting a nice break on price versus an equivalent home in some other development, in which case then the reputation hit has already been factored into the price.

Been here since '06. Have yet to smell a thing. I live b/n Kirby and Reflection Bay closer to FM2234.

SCR was 'the place to live' in 2005-2006. But, i think it lost its charm after the 'landfill' tag got attached to it in 2007. I read that the city and CABRLE(?)have succeded in reducing the proposed height or severeness of the landfill...But, it seems the damage is already done.

I live just south of SCR and drive through it all the time. The only area the odor is sometimes noticeable is on the far west edge of SCR. If you need a visual reference then use Kingsley Drive as an approximate line. However, I know people who live west of Kingsley who say they have never smelled it. Your mileage may vary.

I live in SCR and personally think that this whole smell thing is a bunch of rubbish (no pun intended).

SCR grew and filled up like wild fire and that wouldn't happen if there were "Smells" going on here. So dont believe the non sense. Everybody here loves life and would not trade it for anything.

Chances are that those that are pushing the smell reputation thing have personal agendas...

I have no personal agenda. I'm sure it's a nice area, but I had lots of options when buying my home so why buy in an area where are issues like this to deal with when you have to sell someday?

I think they say that because it does. I drive by there all the time and the back part stinks.

there is a factory to the west of shadow creek off 521, also the land that shadow creek is on used to be old gas lines from texas city, black holes( or saltdomes) were once all along 2234, beltway 8, and 288. Since there is a lot off construction people in that section will probably smell more and more because more construction leads to discovery in that particular section.
