Our compressor went out today and has to be replaced. What should I expect to pay in Houston for a new one? My parents live in central TX and paid far below what I have been quoted. I need to make sure I'm getting market price and not ripped off.

The guy I am buying a house from had a new 4 ton AC condenser installed last year. He paid $2380 total. Company was Deerwood A/C & Heating in Humble if your in that area and the price sounds good to ya.

My 2200 sq ft is cooled by a 4 ton, which is slightly undersized IMO.which I highly recommend . These newer units are controlled by a somewhat computerized circut board (motherboard). I'm on my 3rd one in a little over 2 years now. On each one of them the main relay burned out, most likely due to our brutal summer heat.
