I have lived in Aliana for over 2 years and do not have a water softener. A salesman came by one time and showed why I did and got mad because I wanted to research it more. Told him to leave.

I do know that some people do have them though.

I'm not in Aliana but am in Fort Bend -- I've had a water softener everywhere I've lived, when able. I just prefer it. If you're used to soft water, you'll want it; if not, you may not need it.

You should consider outside companies for those things though, they're usually less expensive than what the homebuilders charge and may even do a better job. We've been using Environmental Protech and have been pleased.

I live in Richmond on Belfort and 1464. Water softener is almost required since the water sucks. Washing your clothes you can really tell. Also after showering skin feels a bit icky. But smoother skin with a water softener.

The whole south side and the inner city have pretty hard water. I grew up with it and think any softer (like in College Station) takes too long to wash off soap & shampoo. Every so often I'll clean the little rocks out from the faucet and shower metal screens if they get plugged. Good enough.

No need to guess, buy a test kit and test it yourself. They are inexpensive, compared to buying a water softener if you don't need to. Here's an example:

Hardness Test Kit (CaCO3) - Amazon.com

Thank you much for the info. Reason for the question was to have builder put in water softener loop in the garage. I will have that done. Thanks again

Put the loop w/drain in anyways. That way if you decide you want one further down the road, you're covered.

I have lived in Aliana for almost 6 years, and yes, I have a water softener. My son has extremely bad eczema, so it's a must for our household. Please DO NOT get it from the builder, they charge an arm and leg for it. I had the builder put in the loop w/drain and later had a great company put one in for much cheaper. We also have a reverse osmosis system put in and have the line also go to the fridge for the drinking water and ice maker. Let me know if you like the name of the company I used.
