I'm doing research on drive-in movie theatres in Houston which were closed and demolished many years ago. If anyone has any information and/or photographs of any, please let me know.

There was a twin drive-in on Telephone Road between Fuqua and BW-8 - I believe called the Telephone Road Twin. There was one in Pasadena -- The Red Bluff Drive In or Red Bluff Theatre. It went from first-run movies to being an x-rated drive in just prior to its demise.

Not in Houston per se, but what is now the parking lot of the H-E-B shopping center in Texas City (9th Ave.@21st St.) was a drive-in until the mid-70s or so.

Slightly before my time, but I grew up hearing stories about how people either got to see or hear movies for free from their upstairs apartments at the Tradewinds complex (which is still there and is a former haunt of mine)

I remember going to that drive-in up north on 45, it had something like 6 screens I believe. It was also built in the 80's if I remember correctly.

The drive that is mentioned that is off n main or hwy 90, I remember very well ... but the name escapes me at the moment. It was close to Butler stadium and had 2 screens. I used to take my kids there in the 80's and we'd always park the truck with the tail gate facing the screen and put lawn chairs in the bed to watch the flicks. We did this for years until things got outta hand with several roudy folks. It just go to the point folks didn't feel safe going there .

I've been going to drive-ins since the 60's and miss them. They were really great during my high school years . It's a shame that some of the younger folks today have never experienced an outdoor theater. Not too many of them left today. I have heard that there is one up near Tomball called the Showboat. I've not been there and it appears to be open. Welcome to The Showboat Drive In

Good luck on your research, it should be time well spent .

You may want to try this site:

Drive-ins

There should be a database with the drive-ins listed. Some even have pictures.

Cleveland, TX had one, called the Twin Ranch drive-in If I recall correctly. One screen still stands, as well as the building that was the projector room. Its on US 59 on the north side of Cleveland, west side of the freeway.

Porter had one that lasted for like 6 months last year, and as far as I can tell its shut down for good. I think they called it Starlite drive-in.
