That seems far from most of Pearland. The article stated that it will effect 5 miles radias....will that even reach East of 288?

Other than Lakes at Country Place (don't believe there are new developments there, are there?, where are some other places in Pearland that is reasonable commute to the Medical Center? We would prefer to build (that way, we can own our dream house since this very likely will be our last move), but open to other options as well. THanks again!

Have you seen Southern Trails?
It is 1 mile West of 288 on FM 518 on the left (just South of Shadow Creek Ranch)

Very Nice community!

You may want to see ([url=http://www.hobb.org]HomeOwners for Better Building
On the forum is information pertaining to that landfill. The poster is called respons-develp. I wonder if the people who are wanting to extend that landfill would do it if it were in their backyard?

Southern Trails is about 6 miles driving toward the coast from the Landfill and I have never smelled anything. I am not sure about after the expansion but the wind is fairly consistantly blowing inland. I would not want to live on the other side!

Take a look also at all of the communities built on old landfills !!!! That would bother me!

I can recommend NOT to go with Wilshire. Horrific service through the entire process. We were actually aware of the poor reputation before we bought, but because their houses aren't selling, we got an outstanding deal.

We are pretty easy-going folks. We kept a list of build problems through the house, which we regularly conveyed to the builder and were summarily ignored through the building process. At closing, we still had a long list which we asked them to put in writing that they would be fixed after closing (horrible idea right? Getting pushed out of our rental because build time was 6 months longer than promised, so we had to move). Builder starts screaming at us at the top of his lungs like a maniac that his word is good and we are calling him a liar by asking him to put anything in writing and we should should just walk away and let them keep the deposit. Crazy! Anyway, just one short example of a horrible building process. Moderator cut: personal
On the plus side, the homes are super-energy efficient (July 2007 electric was $230 for 4600sf house).

We prefer not to be married to our mortgage payment, so would like to keep the cost of building to under $250k, and if anyone can give recommendations to builders in the area, we would really appreciate it.

We may also consider Lake Country on the other side of 288 if we decide not to build but from reading the forum, the HOA there is pretty steep..is it really worth it to pay almost $1400 a year? Looks like a nice neighborhood (at least from the outside. We didn't drive around inside since it is gated). If I am not mistaken, that area is zoned to Pearland ISD.

Any suggestions/advise/recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
We built a home with Gehan Homes in Shadow Creek. Moved in September '06. We LOVED our builder, salesperson, and project manager. The entire experience was fantastic. In fact, our customer survey is now posted on Gehan's website - Gehan Homes Customer Testimonials (http://www.gehanhomes.com/testimonials/testimonials.html - broken link) We live in the back of Phase II and NEVER smell the landfill. We couldn't have picked a better home or community. Don't let these fools tell you otherwise

We used Meritage Homes, GREAT builder, they are very highly ranked and they did an excellent job. Not only that, one year later we had a squeek in our upstairs floor, which was the ONLY issue we had with the entire house, and they came the next day from when we called, fixed it, re-layed the carpet and helped us put our furniture back in...THATS SERVICE!

We used Dakota Blue Homes...they build a great house, but after move in....probably like most builders...it's like pulling teeth to get them to fix anything on your 1 year wall to wall warranty.
