Weekley states that they are a platinum level energy efficiency builder and Meritage is simply standard energy efficient. Weekley claims to be able to save you $100's off your heating/cooling bill. I know Weekley's homes have extremely low heating/cooling bills, but how does Meritage stack up? If we buy a similar sq footage Meritage as a Weekley, are we going to be paying $100's more a month in heating/cooling costs as Weekley claims?

Weekley builds a better home and a more energy efficient home.Meritage gives you more square footage for the price. It depends on how long you are going to stay in your home.

What year was your home built? I assume that was your total electric bill?

Default Meritage Homes and Energy Savings

We have a 4,540 sq. foot Meritage home built in 2007 in Shadow Creek Ranch in Pearland. It has the equivalent of almost 5,000 sq. ft. (if we had a room on the second floor above every two-story space). Our Reliant Energy electric bill for 8-13-2009 through 9-14-2009 (32 day billing cycle) was $194.41. During that time the average high temperature outside was 92 degrees Fahrenheit. We maintain the inside termperature at a comfortable level all day long every day since there is always someone home.

cwsmith1028.....

Could you please elaborate on what a "comfortable temp" is for you? I am quite envious of your August electric bill.

cwsmith - you're killing me!

I have a 10 yr old home in New Territory (2200 sq ft) and my summer bills this yr have been at least 300$. Last yr, with a different electric co, we had 2 months of $450. Yikes! Makes me want to get a new house built!

That is incredible! I live in a new apartment complex, and my 600 sq ft one bedroom electric bill was about $115 per month this summer. And that's at 80 during business hours and 72-74 nights and weekends.

Sounds like these new homes they're building are incredibly efficient!

Correct. That was my total bill. My house is new- almost 4 months old. I'm looking forward to even lower bills as it has gotten cooler now.
