I am a senior disabled living on SSI and am wanting to apply for government assisted subsidized housing because crrently when I pay rent I don't have money to pay utilities and buy food. Please forward any information on how to apply for rental assisted housing.

If you go to the HUD site you'll find a huge amount of info about housing based upon income, family #, your medical condition, or health
or just cannot afford current high rental rates all over the country. Where I'm at in S Jersey, a decent 1 br will cost you anywhere fro $800-900, unless
your lucky enough to win the lottery or find a better paying job. Most have waiting lists but the worse your
situation the faster you should get help. Don't let these burucrats knock you down, read your rights and know the incomme rules etc when you go in the offices. Some of the service people
are decent but most
I've had to deal with were lazy and incompitent (patronage job) I worked all my life and now that I'm 58 ,had to retire early because of back surgeries that made things worse. Hold your head up and read all you can. Try your local county housing office or better yet your state site.

If you are a senior, you can call 211 and they will assign someone to assist you.

The Houston Housing Authority and the Harris County Housing Authority has waiting list for both of these programs I will mention.

Section 8-Is an income based program that allows a person to rent from any landlord as long as they are willing to work with the program.

Public Housing is something that Housing Authorities own. There are some specifically for elderly people.

You might get responses about some of the public housing developments being bad but they all aren't and again some are. It just depends which one you choose to live in.

There are also tax credit properties....(I'm not too familar with them) but I think they are based on income as well.

If you type in these 3 things and search on the internet you should be able to find more detail on the things that I mentioned.
