Man he didn't say it has to be outside the good ole US of A. Keep that money here and put it into the economy. There's tons of places to visit here. You looking for fun in the sun or can it be cold weather?

Going up to New England to see fall foliage will be nice. I'd be back before winter kicks in.

Take the continental non-stop to San Jose Costa rica...3 1/2 hours or less. Cheap, clean and amazing landscapes can be had in Costa Rica. In my view it is much safe than most of Mexico and the amazing scenery, food and accomodation are more concentrated.

Also, Grand Cayman is only a bit over 2 hours from Houston (non stop again on Continental). It is hands down the cleanest most well put together Caribbean nation around. It IS expensive...but you pay for what you get. World class diving, restaurants, beaches and accommodation.

Keep in mind, however that October is still PRIME hurricane season and everywhere in the Caribbean is susceptible to the storms at that time of year. Costa Rica would probably be the safest bet for a hurricane-free long weekend.

ok i guess you guys are reminding me of some things i should bring up LOL. my wife is from guatemala and comes from a very wealthy family. the central american stuff would be out as it is to much "like home". considering her best friend not only owns a B&B in costa rica (i can give referrals if anyone is interested) but they also own a private cay in belize, those are done to death for her.

i would have to say we are somewhat beached out i guess, thinking about it as she just came back from the family beach house on the pacific coast of guatemala.

i am thinking mountains. keep em coming all good suggestions and thanks

Newport, Rhode Island. Cool, crisp autumn weather, spectacular fall leaves and color, lots of history, loads of New England charm. Houston to Boston is a four hour flight, and then a 2 hour drive to Newport (our you could connect into Providence and then have a one hour drive to Newport).

It should be noted that there are no autumn colors, or weather here yet. It's still a little warm for New England and things are still green, so you might want to wait to come see me Jfre.

go to San Jose Costa Rica or Panama city Panama, beautiful beaches and people. Consider Lima Peru a 6 hour flight. As far as keeping the money in the USA i would, but when i search vacation its cheaper to fly to mexico or another country than flying within the USA. It cost me 150 dollars round trip from Houston to Cancun Mexico, but to go to San Francisco it was 500 dollars. It needs to be cheaper to fly within the country here in USA,
