We're relocating from Boston and are considering the Briargrove Park area (in addition to Meyerland and Sugar Land). Does anyone have any information on Briargrove Park? Is it a good area for young families?

Default Briargrove Park

Very nice area, I really enjoyed living there.
I don't think those public schools it's zoned to rank well, however.

I've been living in Briargrove Park for the past couple of years. Love it.

Great neighborhood but if you have kids you may want to factor in the cost of sending your kids to private school. The area is near some nice shops, restaurants and has easy access to Beltway/Tollroads and I-10.

About the public schools, please note that the neighborhood is zoned to Walnut Bend Elementary or Askew (Vanguard), Paul Revere or West Briar Middle Schools and West Side High School. For public, you probably would want Askew, West Briar and West Side HS.

Yep. My 8yo is in the Vanguard program at Askew (2 miles west of BGP) and my 5yo attends a charter school 12 miles north. Walnut Bend Elementary courted the BGP residents with some incentives to get their kids to attend but is doubtful anybody opted to if they had a choice.

All are/have great areas. The real question is where are you going to be working.

You will find a lot of families attending private school through 8th grade in that neighborhood. If you can afford it, stay north of Briar Forest.

A lot depends on where you work. If you have kids, Sugar Land is better (if the commute isn't too long). Check out Cinco Ranch in Katy, also. Someone mentioned Walnut Bend, but there are some scary apartments very close.

WHAT? If you can afford the private schools in Houston you will be doing great with kids in BGP..probably even better than burb schools. Your statement is a total statement of personal opinion. Briargrove is literally INFESTED with kids. They look like they are having a pretty good time out there playing football, soccer and chase in the yards to me.
