West U is one of the best neighborhoods in town, very cool. Prices tend to be around $750k and up; you might find something for less if you look hard. The lots tend to be around $300k for a "tear-down" (meaning Granny's house from 1936 with original plumbing, etc).

Just depends on your price range. I'd love to live in West U, but it's out of my reach.

Not sure how many AA families you'll see there, either.

You could always get a McMansion in the Bellaire area. Bellaire High School is diverse and it's also a good school.

I agree. Under 800 it will be an old bungelow surrounded by McMansions..so your lot will feel like it has houses in it.

As to diversity, it's one of the more diverse "upper end" neighborhoods in the city, other than Bellaire. That said, the junior and senior High Schools are very economically diverse as well. If your child is not an honor student, Lamar High School can be a very inner city school experience.

Bellaire is another option. I just never recommend it, but I personally don't like it for many reasons. Not to mention it has some very bad areas around it.

West U would be a good option. Or Upper Kirby. Even some areas in the upper end of 77004.

Bellaire itself is not very diverse. If I remember correctly, that's where the white officers stopped and beat the black driver. Not sure if they declared it racial profiling, but it wasn't pretty for the city of Bellaire. Almost everyone was against it, but it just shows the lack of diversity in the city proper.

Galena Park is not a long ways from DT, I don't know where you're getting that from??? Also the homes I listed are all over 5000 sqft. LOT SIZE

GP IMHO is the best bet going by the OP's criteria

Traffic wise it's a better commute(I10 east towards DT) than most areas

I think you're wrong on this.

On which part?

It's not Galena Park. But I could be wrong on 150k being the top end of GP. It wouldn't be worth it there though.

A couple more places to consider: BraesHeights (77025) and MeyerLand (77096). Nice neighborhoods, diverse, zoned to Lamar HS and Bellaire HS. I'd read that Bellaire has the most number of National Merit Scholars of any public HS. Both have very good IB/AP programs.

I've always thought North Shore was Galena Park, I could also be wrong
