We are relocating to the Houston area and are looking for a home in the Spring area. Compared to other small towns in this same area, Spring has a high number of registered sex offenders (145). Does anyone know why this number is so high in Spring?

It may have something to do with the high concentration of apartments near the intersection of I-45 & FM 1960. If you look at the sex offender websites and see street addresses such as Hollow Tree, Imperial Valley, Cypress Station, Red Oak & Ella, that is where the larger concentrations of apartments are.

Unfortunately for these apartment properties, most are older, they are far from most major employment centers, and they exist in an area where anyone with any kind of credit can buy an affordable home. (3br/2ba types east of 45 in Spring for under $100k, big 4 br 2 story types in places like Westador and Ponderosa from around $130,000) This leaves them without the best pool of potential renters. I would not be surprised to learn that many have foregone criminal background checks in their so-called screening process.

None of the above is hard fact, but merely opinion and assumption on my part, so take it for what it is worth.

I've been in Spring only once and immediately noticed the speeding pickup trucks and confederate flag stickers. and the gas station i went to has signs that this section is somewhat hillbilly/trailer park/white ghettoish. that may or may not be a good place for sex offenders to rejoin society

It could also be that spring is a big area compared to other areas in houston. If your north of the city, it sometimes feels like they didn't want to start another town, so they just added that area to spring.

Parts of Spring are not nice anymore. If you move to Spring, you should stay north of 1960 in the Klein area or The Woodlands area.

Talking It's ok

If you look on the websites they show the risk level and in spring there very low. I have lived in spring since about 2003 so it is really safe and nice. Also we have very fast acting police officials so if anything were to happen it would be ok. I personally have not heard of any predetors doing anything so it is very safe. I really recommend you get a house in Imperial Oaks, because all the neighbors stay in contact about anything going on.

southwest houston is devoid of sex predator activity for a good reason. Southwest Cholos. They attack child molesters and predators so they are right about 1 thing.

How are the Lollypops on that issue? or the Zombies? I don't think SW is devoid of sex offenders.

I have been living in Spring for over 2 years now and have yet to see a single confederate flag sticker.
