What a stretch. Those pictures barely say anything interesting, not even close to being 'great' in any linggo

Hmmm..I wonder why they picked Montrose over any of the downtown neighborhoods in Austin..they seem to focus on the resale and ecclectic shops on montrose. Theres not nearly as much as in Austin and the areas with the same vibe as Montrose seem to be more community oriented, safer, and more friendly...I've only visited Austin twice, but I still got this impression from these types of areas I walked around.

Sounds like you've been to Austin two times more than you've been to Montrose.

I lived in central Austin for several years, and don't necessarily agree with you. I think Montrose deserves the recognition.

Anyway, good for Montrose and good for Houston. We can debate all we want, but a little nationwide recognition that we're more than a giant subdivision/strip mall is never a bad thing.

Sounds like you've never been to Austin, and if you have then not to these types of areas. It's ok though, I understand the need to defend your hometown. btw, I visit Montrose frequently because I fancy the types of clothing and resale shops there, even worked in the area for a while.

Yes, it does deserve to be recognized, I like Montrose dont get me wrong, but personally I wouldn't put it in the top 10 greatest neighborhoods in ALL of the US. Top 20 or 30 maybe?

Totally agree.

I'm not from Houston or even TX, but I have worked in all large TX cities extensively. Austin is a fine town, but way over-hyped.

The APA's list doesn't specify the 10 best neighborhoods in the US, it simply designates those 10 neighborhoods as great neighborhoods. Ranking one great neighborhood before or after another great neighborhood is pretty ridiculous anyway.

It's not as walkable as Montrose...very nice but I think walkability was a major factor
