Hi, I am new to the Katy area and am looking for a salon/stylist to get my hair cut and colored. What can I expect to pay? I have a coupon to a place near my home called Geometrix. Does anyone know anything about it? TIA

Anabel

I love love love a gal named Tessa Collette who works at Cinco Ranch Salon, which is at the intersection of South Mason Rd and Cinco Ranch Blvd. I get a discount as a Moxie Mom member, so I don't know her full price, but she charges me $35 for the cut at $50 for AWESOME highlights/lowlights and toner. She recently moved there from a much more expensive salon.

$50 for highlights and toner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! I have been going to a salon down near Rice. Cut, color and style usually cost me about $275, that includes tips. I don't want to pay to pay that much anymore. It seems outrageous and dumb.

I know, I kind of fell over when she told me that price. At her old salon she charged $140 for the cut and color (same highlights/toner combo) but I got the same Moxie Moms of Katy discount so I paid $120 (of course, then I tipped her the extra $20). It's not FULL highlights, it's technically only partial but I have long hair and it's really everything except the back, longest layer. Takes her at least two full hours with the cut.

OMG...what I take from this is that a gift certificate to a salon is a quite acceptable gift to a gf??? I thought about changing barbers when they raised the rate to $18. Sorry I don't mean to hijack, back to salons in Katy, here is a link....

Hi Oildog, I think gift cards to salons are an excellent gift. I love when my husband gives me those and also day spa gcards. Depends on the woman, though, as soon may regard this as too impersonal. Thanks for the link.

My last several hair experiences were at Salon Envy which is a newer shop that opened there at the corner of Fry Rd and Katy-Gaston. They charged $35 for highlights and have been happy with the result the three times that I have been there. The haircut/style prices start at $13, so I can't see how to spend even a $100 for both unless you are a big tipper. I guess the important things to consider is which salon is the closest, most inexpensive, and doesn't make you cry when they are done. I just can't imagine driving all the way to the Rice area from Katy AND spending that kind of money.
