My sister used to live in Mission Viejo, so I know the area.

I'd also recommend looking in Seven Meadows. I live in Cinco Ranch now, but border on Seven Meadows. I like the houses there and there seems to be more gated communities.

The one thing I will say about Katy is that it is still developing. The Woodlands currently has more shopping, restaurants, entertainment than Katy. But I'm expecting Katy to catch up over the next ten years or so.

We are also from Orange County and have been living in the Houston are for three years. Please go to HAR.com and put in zip code 77396. Look at the beautiful golf course homes in the gated Serrano Creek village of Fall Creek. All of the homes in the gated section are custom. The elementary school is rated exemplary with a new High School that just opened this year. We live here (in a non-gated section) and really enjoy it. The community is tight knit and a lot of fun with things like "Poker Nights" "Ladies Night In" and lot of activities for the kids. Only 15 miles North of Downtown Houston (about a 25 - 30 minute commute during rush hour). There are a lot of professionals that live in Fall Creek including a few Pro-football players.

Here are a few sample properties:
8106 Beckett Creek Lane, Humble, TX 77396 - HAR.com
14414 Serrano Creek Ln, Humble, TX 77396 - HAR.com
14418 Serrano Creek, Humble, TX 77396 - HAR.com

Good luck on your home search! ~K~

I'd consider Meyerland. Make sure you buy where it feeds into Bellaire high. Meyerland has tons of shopping in the neighborhood and is close to pretty much everything Houston has to offer. Also, great private schools aren't too far away.
