I like the concept of this place -- dinner at a table while watching a movie. But I know some people don't like this mall area (Mission Bend I think) or wouldn't go at night. The chain's policy is no one under 18 without a parent, so one assumes that eliminates the tribes of 16-year-olds who just want to goof off or kill time. (Too $$ also, I would think.)

The Houston Press gives it a "best of" nearly every year though, including this one.

Any first-hand experiences of this facility?? Food decent enough? Anything to avoid? There's also a Drafthouse in Katy, but this would be closest. We are all 45+. Also, is the sound system DEAFENING, as I am encountering in most theaters now??? (Last weekend at AMC First Colony comes to mind....geez, I'm not hard of hearing YET!)

Many thanks!

ADDED: Yes I know it's AlamO but the edit function will not allow any change of titles once posted!

The Studio Movie Grill isn't too far away and has dinner, mixed drinks, and kids under 18 can go. It's also in a far better location for going at night IMHO

I really never see kids there except for the weekend matinees.

I've gone there about 3 times.

There aren't alot of people that go so it won't be packed. I think it's a nice place to go and you won't hear alot of people talking during the movie.

I will say though it's hard to see to place an order if you get there when the lights go down so you'll need to use your cell phone to look at the menu.

Agree... and Studio Movie Grill is more of a wine/drinks place. For good beer and better food, go to Alamo Drafthouse.
There's one in Katy too. But I've talked to servers who say they've worked at both locations and like West Oaks better. It seems to have more of that quirky feel and crowd that reminds me some of when I was living in Austin. Also West Oaks is the original Houston location.
We drive up that way and go to it every few months. It's fine, we just go to Alamo and nothing else in the mall (no reason to anyway). Even though it's not like it's in Sharpstown or something. Not the safest commercial area, but what is these days.

catfancier: You mention First Colony Mall so if you're coming from Sugar Land, you could go up FM 1464, to Westheimer, and take that to West Oaks on the right. Alamo Drafthouse is at the back right there. That's the way we go... I dislike using that part of Hwy 6 from Sugar Land because it's full of lights and too much traffic.

Got that right!! A relative of mine doesn't drive on the highways (e.g. 59 or Beltway or Loop) but I keep tellling her, if she can drive 6, she's better than she thinks!

Thanks everyone for the input!
