Is Lake Houston clean enough? I don't recall seeing a toxicity report but I could be mistaken.

And a 100 lb catfish is impressive, but probably doesn't make for good eatin'.

Lake houston is off color but is one of the cleanest lakes as far as toxicity reports in this area. But i am not sure about the river below the dam.

I do know some of the trinity bay is bad but not sure if any of it can back up the san jacinto river or not. But the lake above the dam tested clean.

Lake Houston: A TMDL Project for Bacteria

[mod edit 10 post to link off site]
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has determined that Lake Houston and several tributaries sometimes have bacteria levels that are higher than state standards for contact recreation. The State of Texas requires that water quality in the Lake Houston watershed be suitable for swimming, wading, fishing, and aquatic life.

Too high for contact recreation? In other words, too high to swim? Yuck.

Crappie sounds good though-- I guess I can flash fry one to kill off any bacteria.

Speaking of tributaries, the San Jacinto River I wouldn't touch with someone else's 10 ft pole.

My freshwater spots are Lakes Travis/LBJ/Inks/Buchanan. Until they get mercury pollution at least...
