I know hundreds of ex NY'ers down here and every one is happy and has no desire to ever go back to NYC, Long Island or anywhere in NY State (me included)

Just give it more of a chance, the only complaint I have heard was the public transportation is lacking but the pros far outweigh the cons

You can't knock it until you try it. If you live on Long Island; you could probably deal with Houston.

I know your parents settled in Florida, but don't base your opinions off your experiences there and as well as those who despised it. Everyone is different and just because they hated it; don't mean you will.

LOL no, it's far different over there than where I live in NY. There's also a big difference being a short train ride from the biggest and best city in the country, and a city that doesn't have much compared to NYC.

Except you are in NY - so why are you even posting comments on this topic about living in Houston because it sounds like your family never made the move and you have no personal experience about living in Houston - other than second- and third-hand info? Biggest and best is your perception only - not the entire free world's. The biggest and best place to live - is ultimately the place where you and your family are the happiest which could be anywhere dependent upon what makes you tick.

Spent my fair share of time in NY...as I was born and raised in NJ. You couldn't pay me enough to ever go back to either!

And so many New Yorkers wonder why the rest of the country hates them....

I love NYC, and I really miss being able to spend time there this Christmas, but Houston is great and for now it's the perfect place to raise my kids and build some wealth

Well, that's why you have to be open-minded and not compare it to NYC. You should really visit before you criticize the place. You never know; it might surprise you.

Yep, but don't judge NY'ers on her alone. Moderator cut: personal attack

Everyone can give advice, but some people can give more informed advice.

"And that's a fact Jack!"

Play nice people.
