I am thinking of moving to Houston with my teenager. The teen is 16. My sister has a place for me in Downtown Houston, just blocks from Houston University, she lives in the Woodlands. I have been reading that there are a lot of crime in Houston. Would this be a safe place? Also how is the job market there? I am in the accounting field. Please help.

Layoffs have occurred in the accounting field due to the economy. But overall unemployment is a few points lower here than the national average. There are lots of accounting jobs here due to the large number of corporate headquarters located here. All the big 4 are here as well as hundreds of medium and large companies that need accountants.

Crime is not an issue unless you intend to spend a lot of time on the streets in high crime areas. Common sense should help you determine if you are that kind of person or not.

Default Moving to Houston with a teenager

Thanks for the infor. I was more thinking of my teenager as far as the crime. My teen is not a street person, a very good child, however, peer presure can sometime be a definate influance. Also I am also concerned about schoodling as my teen will be entering a junior year in high school. I am still not sure that this the best to leave in this last years of high school. My child is in a top ten high school at present and I do want to get my child in a good high school in I were to move.

I just moved here with a 16 year old but she is home schooled by choice. Just keep her busy in school and a part time job and she should be ok.
