Does anyone know any staff that are continually put "on call", have been layed off or fired for ambiguous or seemingly arbitrary reasons? People have been disappearing lately and a friend from another hospital said the same thing is happening there. I thought health care was going to be a safe haven from the economy but now I'm seriously worried, some weeks my time will be cut down to half.

Ask around for me guys and tell me if I'm wrong, I hope I am.

What do you or these people do in the hospital? Office staff? My wife is a nurse and she's getting as many hours as she asks for.

RNs from ED, ICU, IMU, Med-Surg are ones that I know specifically.

Day surgery, pre-op, oncology, LND/mother baby seem OK.

Where and what floor does she work? I might have to take a look there.

St. Catherine's in Telemetry. I haven't heard her talk about layoffs in any floor though. Just went to their Christmas party and seems like everything is good.

I am in Med/Surg and no cut backs or lay offs where I work in Clear Lake. We are short staffed and have to use agency nurses to pick up the slack.
