My commute is about 8 minutes one way but I don't really like the hospital that I am at so I am willing to commute longer if I can find a place to call home.

So that raises another question - if you just hated your commute, would you be willing to change your residence or your job or neither and just continued to be dissatisfied with the status quo?

That's actually a good question. I suspect there's a fair bit of movement in the Houston area for this reason, if only because the dollar amounts to be financed generally tend to be smaller. Up in the Northeast, the tendency is to grin and bear it. I know people in the New York metro whose daily commute on a good day is 3 hours round trip, and 4 hours on a bad traffic day. These are people who have moved further out (60 to 90 miles away from work) in order to get places they can afford that also come with garages and more than tiny patches of grass.

I've moved from the Galleria Office and Home to the EC Office and Home. Quality of life and maximum free time, nil commute means everything to me. And really they are only 20-25 minutes apart. But I really enjoy working out or going home for lunch, letting the dogs out etc....Being close to those who need me within minutes. I can't imagine being 30-45 minutes away in time of emergency or even a kid that needs/forgot something.

I learned my lesson the hardway. The Woodlands to the Galleria. Hell no, double dog no will I ever commute again. Less pay is way ok for me not to ever do that again. You only go around once in this world...I'm NOT DOING IT IN A CAR!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like a long commute (one that is > 30 minutes one way) and would love to be 15 mins. or less from work, go home for lunch, etc. but I also love living on the Bay Area side of town so even though my commute has taken me all over Houston near and far, I wouldn't move. I value my free time as well, and hate that I lose some in my commute (which isn't that bad ... to me), but value my lifestyle away from work is important ... so no moving near my job for me. For now I am downtown so the commute isn't bad imo. I do have a friend who just moved from Bay Area to Woodlands and is now doing the Woodlands-Galleria commute - so far she is none too happy about it.

This should be a bumper sticker!

My guy makes it to the office in 3-4 minutes on a typical day. It sort of annoys him since he can't get in 2 full songs before pulling into the driveway.

I live in NW Houston (Acres Homes) and work in Willowbrook (also in NW Houston) so I travel roughly 5-10 miles which translates into 15 minutes, 20 minutes if there's traffic. I'm planning on moving closer to work and the area I'm looking at is 2 miles to my job so I'll be near my job and Willowbrook Mall

My commute is about 30 minutes from pearland to clear lake each way. So an hour roundtrip. One guy in my office commutes all the way from Conroe into Clear Lake. He says it's 75 minutes each way. I bet it's worse when there's bad traffic. I don't know how he does it.
