77027 is a terrific area! Inner loop, Greenway Plaza area. Central Market, restaurants, in the middle of it all. Enjoy!!!

If you are moving into that zip with the child, you are in Houston I. S. D.

Use this: http://dept.houstonisd.org/ab/abcx_tool/search.asp to find your assigned schools.

The HISD schools in and serving that zip code tend to be comparable to suburban and private schools and tend to have magnet and Vanguard programs that attract kids from other parts of HISD.

EDIT: According to this: //www.city-data.com/zips/77027.html

If you actually live within the boundaries of 77027, the zoned elementary schools are as follows:
* North of Westheimer and east of the railroad tracks: River Oaks Elementary School
** Website: http://es.houstonisd.org/riveroakses/
** Profile: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/RiverOaks_ES.pdf
** Greatschools page: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/3501
* West of the railroad tracks (period) or south of Westheimer and east of Weslayan: St. George Place Elementary School (The school will open in fall 2007 - it is a continuation of School at Post Oak)
** Website of Post Oak: http://es.houstonisd.org/postoakes/
** Profile of Post Oak: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/SchoolatPostOak_ES.pdf (broken link)
** Post Oak Greatschools page: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/9004
* East of Weslayan and south of Westheimer: Poe Elementary School
** Website: http://es.houstonisd.org/poees/
** Profile: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Poe_ES.pdf
** Greatschools page: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/3493

All people with the zip code 77027 are zoned to Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School.

Lanier:
** Website: http://ms.houstonisd.org/lanierms/
** Profile: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Lanier_MS.pdf
** Greatschools page: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/3450

Lamar:
** Website: http://hs.houstonisd.org/lamarhs/
** Profile: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Lamar_HS.pdf
** Greatschools page: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/tx/3449

By the way, if you send your child to his or her zoned school, you may get a waiver exempting your child from school uniforms (Poe, St. George, Lanier, and Lamar require uniforms for non-exempted students) if you have a philosophical or religious preference against uniforms (see: http://www.tea.state.tx.us/field/uniforms.html (broken link) ).

Now, look at www.greatschools.net and visit the schools to see if you like them. If you do not like your zoned schools, you may find a private school or find a magnet program at another HISD school.
