Me: 27, single, lawyer, looking for a place to relocate this spring

Heard about Midtown, The Heights, Upper Kirby, Montrose, River Oaks. Are these area worth investigating further as places to look for a place?

J

I like River Oaks, Montrose, Sawyer Heights if your buying Midtown and Washington Ave (Rice Military) for renting.

River Oaks is all $1mil+. All the other areas are great.

For a young person, Midtown, Upper Kirby, Montrose, are all nice places to live.

Just out of curiosity, why would you recommend buying in Sawyer Heights but renting in Rice Military?

RM is a nice area, but I think the homes are too close together and parking is tight. There are a few apartment complexes along Washington. When I was hunting a realtor warned me that there may be a fair amount of defaults in the western part of the area in the upcoming years. Lots of units available. Not bad to buy there, just my preference...harder to turnover I'd think.

Not sure why the Heights have a great reputation as hip place to live. If I were single, no way. It is near some fun places but shopping is poor, a few small pubs, not places to mix and meet. A few streets in any direction leads to high crime areas. I understand it used to be different there and people speak of it's great days. See: Home in the Heights: Group hopes to restart Heights Super Neighborhood

I admit that I just might not "get it" since many people seem to love it. I still say if I were single, naw.

Um, could it be that it is all those things you said? Yes. But, it is also very close to Houston Metro, and is a up and coming neighborhood. I think that most other people get that.

I too am interested in these areas, what are the zip codes if you don't mind. I keep coming up with a lot of properties I am interested in in the 77007 area.

77006 is the areas to the south and 77007 is north of it.
