In case anybody hasn't already heard this on the news. This family is so amazing and we need heartwarming news like this more often.

Extreme Makeover comes to Kemah family's rescue | Houston & Texas News | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

They are still calling for volunteers and donations, btw. Here's the link for that:

Yes I saw this in today's paper too. Sound like a great family.

I just hope the EM team builds them a home they can afford to maintain. It is a little-known downside of the EM makeovers that several homeowners of past makeovers have been foreclosed on because they cannot keep up the cost of maintaining the house...especially utilities for all the square footage they now have to heat and cool....

I'm sorry for the volunteers in this unusually frigid weather...if there is a God then Ty's lips will freeze to that friggin' megaphone of his!! Can't stand him or it, but maybe that's just me. Like the idea of the show though!

Uh Ooohhh. I hope that they build them a smaller home, that they can afford.

It's due to be 6340 square feet. Don't forget three kids are in their twenties. Two are 18 and 19. That house will be fortune to cool and heat - especially for an electric company lineman and a stay-at-home wife.

The couple have been married for 23 years and been foster parents to more than 85 children.
Well, they obviously do need space.

The construction company being used is known for building extremely energy efficient homes utilizing solar, etc. Supposedly the home is a total donation and they say no mortgage or property taxes (not sure how they can not have property taxes but that is what paper said). If that is the case and you have no mortgage, no taxes -- then you should be able to afford the utilities and upkeep.
