There were crimes of this sort over the holidays 2008 including attempted robbery at gunpoint in the parking lot at TW mall. There were also the series of armed bank robberies which seemed to occur weekly at one point! I was surprised then but now know it's one of the things that comes with living in the Houston area.

what about the arsonist in the heights? no community is safe from crime and it would be foolish and naive to assume it is.

Crime stats remain way down. Just one of those blips on the map. Got to be aware of surroundings and not do rash things in the presence of evil. In this day and age, you might see such a thing at the most remotest of locations, out in the country. Our area has an abundance of police presence. I saw 10 cars chasing a would be bandit one evening. The downtown area is a tourist attraction.

ok Indianspringguy.....
I gotta say this....

its more than just a flew blips on the radar as you say.
crime has skyrocketed there in the past several years long before the effects of the economic meltdown hit.

rich kids + boredom + woodlands = crime..

and people cant just say "oh its out of town commuters driving in to the woodlands".

used to live there...DONT miss it.....

I don't think Rich has anything to do with the equation. I live in area where the families have far more disposable income on average than the Woodlands. Yet they don't light fires, cut down trees in the road and make car bombs. Make distasteful t-shirts? sure.

I think it's more like:

Teens+Boredom+Entitled or self-absorbed Parents=Crime

i would take the "entitled" part out and i would change "self absorbed parents" also.

teens+boredom= crime, teen+unresponsive/bad parents=crime.

bored teens will do stuff it doesnt mater how much money they have or dont have, and teens with parents who dont teach them the right thing, regardless of how much money, how self absorbed or what ever will get into trouble.

a teen in royal oaks with bad parents is just as likely to get into trouble as a kid in the 5th ward with bad parents, the only difference is the type of trouble they get into. growing up, i lived in an area of very wealthy people (i lived not to far outside of the dominion is san antonio, this is where people like george straight live) and while we didnt have much, they had to much. those kids never robbed people, they never killed, there where the occasional thefts, a rape happened a few times, a fight was pretty common, and some destruction of property. with the exception of the rape, pretty much vandalism. now on the flip side how many kids in the 5th ward rob, steal, rape or murder?

the common denominator is not the age IMO but the parents. if your parents dont teach you the right thing, or worse yet intentional teach you the wrong thing, then yeah your gonna do some bad things.

go look up cussing kid on youtube and look for the little black girl in the pink shirt. this is a fine example of teaching them the wrong thing.
