Hello Everyone,

Anyone have any insight on any good electric companies? I looked on power to choose and Mega, Southwest Power & Light and YEP were the cheapest. Does anyone have any of these companies and what are your experiences with them?

I'm not trying to find the cheapest (but it would be nice ) but also a company that doesn't have all those added fees for just looking at the thermostat....LOL

Any names that you can provide me would help alot. I'm with Gexa now and I'm not too fond of them. My contract ended in December so I know my bill will be high but I'm moving at the end of the month and I didn't want to get into another one until I moved.

Any help is appreciated.

I've been happy with StarTex Power so far.
I've had them for about 2 years and have never had an issue.
Cheap rate and you can view/pay your bills online.

Spark (past) and Champion (current) have worked well for me.

Default I have a Reliant $0.10 kwh plan...

it's their month-to-month (no contract, no cost to break) floating price plan that's tied to the index price of natural gas. Saved me a bundle so far. The $0.10/kwh (approximate) is the total combined cost. I think the fixed part of the plan is maybe $0.04 and the current price for gas is maybe $0.06. I once tried a longer term contract where I "guessed" the direction of energy prices. Guessed wrong. Won't ever do that again. Strictly month-to-month for me. I also tried some other energy companies. One went bust when the price of energy peaked two years ago. That threw me into the "pool" for a month until I could get out. Really bad experience. I'll only use established companies from now on.

Go to Power to Choose to review energy providers and rates.

Dynowatt currently has an 8.9KWH variable rate. If we lock with them, its .12

Another vote for StarTex - good rate (11.3c I think), no problems and they gave me advance notice of my contract running out so that I could switch to another rate plan rather than just let my rate run out and stick me on their standard plan

Interesting thread. I've always just gone to powertochoose and compared rates, not thinking there's much difference in services amongst the big companies. Can anyone explain what differences there are?
I've always been with Gexa, b/c they're one of the bigger companies, and they consistently have one of the cheaper 100% Green energy rates. Plus, they have auto debit and Continental Airmile points, and I thought that's all I needed fr my provider. I've always been happy with my service and customer service. Am I missing out on something here?? Hmmm
-With Gexa, I'd recc using a fixed rate though (unless you're pretty sure prices could only go down) b/c they will get you in at a low rate and constantly raise it higher each mth. Luckily, I was watching my bills and locked in a fixed rate.

100% Green.

What does that mean when a *retail* energy provider makes that claim?
