How about a Funeral Parlor? In booming times and recessions, this business never "dies"

I grew up in Kingwood and lived there for many years (will be returning to the area in a few weeks). Restaurants up until recently have had a failure rate...I'm not so sure about retail. I have a friend who has a very lucrative business in Kingwood, but it's geared towards mothers and children.

Keep in mind, just 10 minutes away in Humble there is a Hobby Lobby and a Kirklands for home decor, not to mention the Inside Story and Stein Mart. I've noticed that Kingwood residents (this is probably true all around) that tend to have favorite places to shop and stick to them. The small businesses have a well established clientele, and I'm not sure how easy that would be to establish. It depends on your market, and I would definitely do some market research for the area. I never shopped in Kingwood for much, except for the children's stores, Stein Mart, James Avery, and such. Most folks I know go outside of Kingwood to shop, which is unfortunate for the business owners but there's more to do in the Woodlands as far as shopping and eating.
on;Just an opinion of a longtime KW resident.
Don't forget HomeGoods!! I frequent that place at least once a week.

Also, my husband has shown some interest in opening an upscale cigar lounge. We have also looked at the Cinco Ranch area in Katy, the Woodlands, and Pearland. Comparing all the locations, we feel we would be able to get the best lease terms at Kingwood. The problem we face is that for either business to work, we need the foot traffic/an area where people will be out and about. We don't see much of that here in Houston but we see the potential for that in Kings Harbor and Kingwood. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Home Interior is a booming business but you need to be competitive and as previously stated there is Kirklands, Pier One, Hobby Lobby, and HomeGoods. If you are not competitive than you must offer very original pieces that somebody can NOT go into Hobby Lobby, Kirklands, or Home Goods and find at much deeper discounts. Also offer services at reasonable rates. Get to know local faux painters and such and team up with them to offer their services. Also refurbished furniture pieces. People love antiques or second hands that have been given a second chance at life. That take a lot of time to do but I am sure if you offer a few quality pieces they would sell as well.
As for the cigar lounge, I doubt that would be very profitable in that area. Downtown maybe but not in KingsHarbor but that is just my two cents worth.
Oh and I just remembered along with those stores plus Tuesday Morning and Sam & Moon up in The Woodlands. Its a bit further away but I do travel that way just to go there.

I just thought about what I miss from around this area. I wish there was a scrapbook store other than HobLob or Michaels. There use to be one up there by the Kingwood PO but I forget its name. I loved that place and was sad when it closed up. I hardly ever go up to Lonestar in The Woodlands. I knwo I know, I will travel for Sam & MOn but not Lonestar. Truth really, I go maybe every three months to that store.
