You know, if I die in a car wreck, I hope somebody at my funeral goes "well, at least he didn't get shot. It's a 'tolerable risk' after all..." Hell, just make that the eulogy and be done with it.

You make bad assumptions.

So was it a little more comforting to know that you lost somebody in a car wreck instead of by some other means? Maybe that made them a little less dead or something?

Most of the risk out there is unacceptable. People texting and doing makeup and that sort of crap. Your car is not your office. Pay attention to your driving or get off the road. Those people scare me more than anybody out on the street, or anyone who wants to try to break into my house, because in all likelihood I can kill them and end up some folk hero a la Joe Horn. But if I shoot the teenage bimbo weaving into oncoming traffic while sending some pointless text message, I'm going to prison.

You seem to care deeply about this issue to be making such passionate posts to forums about this at 2 in the morning. What practical actions are you perusing to effect whatever the change is that you want?

Well, I suppose I'm "perusing" an internet forum. As for "pursuing" I really couldn't tell you. People seem to think it's their birthright to do whatever they want when they're driving. But, you know, "tolerable risk."

I do keep some less than ordinary hours, but thanks for noticing. I've also noticed we've kind of gone off topic, though I pretty much started it. My point stands however.

These happened all in one day.

People die every minute, but they don't all make it to the news.
