We're relocating for work from overdeveloped Boca Raton, Florida and really want to find a friendly western town, cowboy boots and horses and all. Can we find this in Conroe or surrounding areas?

To an extent you can find it in Conroe, but there's more of it in areas further away from Houston like Livingston and such.

Conroe is pretty much a typical suburb.

Yeah, suburbs is what we want to stay away from. And gated communities. And neighbors that don't even know each other. And zero lot lines. And....well, I digress Maybe we'll check into Livingston, thanks for the tip!

I really couldn't recommend anything in the Houston metro if this is what you want, and Conroe would be on the edge of that. I'd say Harris County and any country that borders it. If you can find it now, doesn't mean it will be there in 10 years or so.

You want the country - move to the country. Conroe is not the country anymore.

Yep, I get that, but since the job is in Conroe, we're hoping to find something that's not too much of a commute and still satisfies that country craving, even if its not a full blown "wear-your-spurs-around-town" kind of thing. In other words, may I please have my cake and eat it too?!! So if anyone who knows the area can recommend something more on the country side than on the suburb side, we appreciate the help.

You can, for now anyway. Working in Conroe and commuting from further out is doable. Thing is, a lot of other people want to be in the middle of nothing and everything at the same time.

Traffic in Conroe is horrible for its size, further killing any "country" vibe. Livingston is a bit of a haul and there isn't a particularly direct route between there and Conroe.

Don't want to sound overly negative or anything, just not wanting you to get disappointed.

Perhaps something in Liberty County will fit. Plenty of land used for horses and grazing longhorns out there.

Hey, what about Cut and Shoot? Yes, that is the name of the city...Cut and Shoot, Texas. It's right by Conroe. I've never been there, but with a name like that it makes me think it might have something !
