If you are bored (whether inside the loop or outside the loop) I would say it's a personal problem.
Don't wait for others to entertain you...become the entertainment.

i live just on the outside of the beltway. Though, i dont really think there is much of a difference 6 blocks outside of the beltway, as 6 blocks to the inside of the beltway.
that area is pretty similar to 6 blocks outside the 610 loop, etc.

usually when i go out and do stuff, i end up all over the place, so it depends on what you like. sure some of the major attractions are downtown, or right near there, museum, pro sports, large convention centers, etc.

but out where i live there is a lot more parks, skate parks, bike trails. plenty of 24hr restaurants and late night clubs, bars and sports bars. multiple movie theaters, bowling alleys, golf courses, etc.
i certainly wouldnt call it boring.
before i moved to houston i had a lot of people here say i needed to move inside 610 where all the cool/happening things are.
its true that farther out is less walking/biking friendly, but from what ive noticed there is pretty much just as much stuff going on outside, as there is inside.

Outside the loop isn't boring if you like the outside. Forests to hike, swamps to get lost in, miles of road to bicycle, stuff like that.

For one, all of the Galleria area is outside of 610 - Plus the new Chinatown is too.

Many interesting areas are outside of 610.

Inside the loop is mostly urban and city like so you won't find large indoor malls like you will in the suburbs inside the loop.

Add boating, kayaking, jetski, fishing, etc at least in this area. Galveston isn't far and there's a drag race track not far from here either. This really just depends on what phase of life you are in and what you prefer.

BTW Gulfgate Mall is inside the loop (barely).

And Jluke, that HEB is definitely one of the crappiest grocery stores in town, worse than the Fiesta near Mykawa/610. I'm surprised it's actually still open.
