When will Houston begin to roll out this upgrade this internet package. apparently Massachussets and Indiana have it. I called Comcast and a customer service rep had no clue of a specific ETA. Has anyone heard of a time or a date?

50mbps would be nice but not with Comcast no matter which level internet you have you will always have a 250gb montly limit. To make 50mbps worth it they would should give 500gb bandwith with this package if not Comcast does not need to offer it

Apparently, it’s a State Secret.

DOCSIS 3.0 has to be implemented before this speed tier is available.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS

Houston is the red-headed stepchild of Comcast’s markets, since it took over from Time-Warner, and Time-Warner failed to keep the system updated. As a result, there are areas of town where even DOCSIS 2.0 isn’t implemented; only DOCSIS 1.x with Speedboost. According to a tech I know who works for them, Houston is likely to be dead last with DOCSIS 3.0 implementation due to this legacy.

Conversely, there was a rumor that it would be implemented here by first quarter 2010. We’re rapidly approaching that deadline, and I haven’t heard any more about it. I got the “it’s coming soon” bit when I went online, and when I called to ask. When I asked for more details, the reps I talked to had no idea…and different reps had different answers (or no answer at all).

I see we’re not first in line for Xfinity either, which is the “next generation” of Comcast services. If you read the comments section in my link below, Xfinity is getting mixed reviews where its already been implemented.
http://blog.comcast.com/2010/02/comcast-launches-xfinity.html

According to Comcast, their entire system is slated for DOCSIS 3.0 by next year, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Exactly. It’s an expensive tier. The speed won’t do much for browsing on most pages compared to a broadband connection which can consistently achieve connections at or above 3mbps. It would be nice for downloading and streaming, but with the ridiculous cap they set, it wouldn’t be difficult to exceed. I think for now I’ll stick with AT&T’s Max uVerse service; 12mbps is plenty for streaming, and there’s no cap (although they’ve been experimenting with caps since Nov. 2008 in their Reno, NV and Beaumont, TX test markets )

do u believe that Max uVerse is faster than Comcast's Blast package, download-wise? because thats what i have at this moment.

I don't think many people care much about which is faster...all they care is not having the cap.
I am absolutely positive that if AT&T implements cap, they will also lose a significant amount of their internet customers. Perhaps a less restrictive cap, but still.
