So, I'm a Java developer. Texas seems to be the place for someone like me, at least according to certain studies. I'm currently in SLC, and would like to move. How does the humidity in Houston compare to, say, Dallas our Austin?

Slightly higher % but enough to be quite noticeable to me. I spend too much time in Dallas and I dry up. But coming from the west you'll probably think all 3 are terribly humid.

Have you been to New Orleans? It feels the same there as here to me.

Houston feels more humid when compared to the other two on a typical summer afternoon. There are a number of factors that contribute to this. Elevation and proximity to the Gulf are the main factors. I'd say you'd feel more "comfortable", in terms of humidity, in Austin. SLC is VERY dry compared to anyplace east of 100degrees West longitude (roughly 100 miles west of I35) in Texas. If you were to come to Texas starting in May - October...it will slap you in the face, no matter which of the major TX cities you visit.

I agree that coming from SLC, you would not really notice a discernible difference between the 3 TX cities you mention but you would definitely notice the difference between SLC & Houston. I would think it would be like the difference between an oven & a sauna humidity-wise.

Houston is also at much lower elevation and is proximate to the gulf. It is much more humid than SLC.

After going to school in Dallas and growing up in Houston, I'd say Houston is much more humid.

Here's a good map, you'll see the average humidity is pretty high in the eastern 2/3rds of the state, compared to where you're from.
